ISTATWeb-COSI project consortium coordinator

The Italian National Institute of Statistics is a public research organisation. It has been present in Italy since 1926, and is the main producer of official statistics in the service of citizens and policy-makers. It operates in complete independence and continuous interaction with the academic and scientific communities.

Since 1989 Istat has been performing the role of directing, coordinating, and providing technical assistance and training within the National Statistical System (Sistan). The System was established under Legislative Decree 322/89 in order to rationalise the production and publication of information and to optimise resources allocated to official statistics.

Sistan is made up of Istat, central and branch statistical departments of Public Administrations, of local and regional bodies, Chambers of Commerce, other public bodies and administrations providing statistical information.

Donatella Fazio, Scientific Coordinator

Donatella FazioSenior Statistician at Istat is Head of the “R&D Projects” Unit in the Directorate of Development of Information Systems and Corporate Products, Information Management and Quality Assessment. She is the scientific coordinator for the Consortium of Web-COSI project. She has an excellent experience of EU research policies and strategies in the official statistical field. She has participated to several international projects carrying out research on various fields. The main topics recently treated include the integration of official and non-official statistics, the role of Web 2.0 platforms and networks to implement new ways of collecting data, Big Data for statistical production, new measurements on well-being and societal progress, the Modernisation of European Enterprises and Trade Statistics (MEETS).  Currently, she coordinates two SSH FP7 projects, funded by the DG Research and Innovation: BLUE-ETS – Enterprise and Trade Statistics and e-Frame – European Framework for Measuring Progress. She is the manager of the European Network on Measuring Progress hosted on the Wikiprogress.org platform (OECD). Donatella is a senior expert in communication and dissemination strategy of International research projects. Member of Organising Committee of various international conferences. Speaker/chair/rapporteur/facilitator of international workshops and conferences. Speaker at the 4th OECD World Forum, “Measuring Well-Being for Development and Policy Making” – 16, 19 OCTOBER 2012, New Delhi.

Maria Grazia Calza, Project Manager

Maria Grazia photoSenior researcher at Istat “R&D Projects” Unit, is the project manager for the Consortium of Web-COSI. Since 2001 she has been working as a member of the Istat scientific staff for the coordination of several EU FP projects (Diecofis, Nesis, Euroky-Pia, Blue-ETS, e-Frame) related to cross-cutting aspects of strategic importance for official statistics in order to enable data to be more user-oriented and to respond more effectively to emerging needs. Work has dealt with the drafting of the project proposals, the delivery of several reports and other project outputs and with administrative and financial matters related to the coordination of the consortia. Maria Grazia has a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Naples and a MSc in Straight Economics from University of York. Her research fields include business and households taxation, microsimulation of fiscal policies and  public and Industrial economics.

Arianna Carciotto, Technical Officer

Arianna CarciottoShe graduated in Political Sciences at “Sapienza” in Rome, dealing mainly with political and international studies, European Union law and organisation. She has been working at Istat since 1996. She has 10-year experience in the European and international relations. Within this field, she was responsible for internal planning, budgeting, training management and reporting (2000-2009); she coordinated and organised institutional visits of representatives coming from other National Statistical Institutes, EU institutions and international organisations. Istat’s representative at Eurostat working groups and task forces dealing with grant policy (2004-2009). Good knowledge of the European Statistical System, in particular institutions, legislation and functioning. Sound experience in the implementation of EU FP projects and in the support to their administrative coordination and management (DATAMED, BLUE-ETS, e-Frame, ANCIEN, Web-COSI). Former head of Istat President’s Secretariat (2009-2010), she currently works at Istat “R&D Projects” Unit.

Maria Francesca D’Ambrogio, Administrative Assistant

Maria Francesca D'AmbrogioA graduate in Foreign Languages, Università degli Studi di Bari, after the experiences of internship in the Cultural Promotion and Cooperation Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome in 2005 and the Comenius language assistantship in Bochum, Germany,  for the school year 2005/2006, she joined Istat in 2009 where she started to collaborate as administrative assistant in the “R&D Projects” Unit. In this position she has been carrying out the activities related to two projects funded by European Commission, BLUE-ETS and e-Frame, such as in/out contacts, organisation of events, editing of minutes and reports, maintenance and updating of both projects’ websites contents. Within Web-COSI she is in charge of all the administrative tasks according to the project phases and demands.

Tamara Zangla, Administrative Assistant

Tamara ZanglaShe has been working at Istat since 2010 as administrative assistant in the “R&D Projects” Unit which manages the EU FP7 projects Istat is involved in. She mainly deals with the projects’ financial aspects, in particular budgeting, European Commission rules for financial reporting as well as the Istat internal procedures for the management of projects’ budget accounts. She is also involved in managing, monitoring and updating the FP7 projects websites Istat is in charge of. Finally, she deals with the organisation of the events (meetings, workshops, conferences) linked to the FP7 project activities.
