Web-COSI recently presented at the Q2016 Conference, Madrid 1-3 June – an important biannual event supported by Eurostat to present and discuss the progress and development of quality in official statistics. During the panel session “Big Data Oriented Systems”, Donatella Fazio, the Web-COSI scientific coordinator, illustrated the paper “Data ecosystem: a new challenge for official statistics” written with Enrico Giovannini and Marina Signore. The presentation reported the Web-COSI project’s experience, focusing on its main output, the “Web-COSI Wikiprogress Portal”, as a best practice in the construction of a global Data Ecosystem where official and non-official data on well-being and societal progress are collected and visualized. The panel discussion was very thought-provoking and challenging about the new ways to take on for a better use of the statistical information complementing official and non-official data.
